Along the Jonic shore, in province of Crotone, among vineyards, secular olives and millenary ruins, there are the cities of Cirò and Cirò Marina, shared in May 1952 from a unique community, particularly significant historically and culturally, because of its ancient origin and the wonderful civilization expressed.
When forming replaced stock-raising, the country-sides of Cirò Marina, rich in water, level towards the sea with sweet hills, were the most suitable to benefit by hat happy position turned to the rising sun: the most propitious to the vine yard's prosperity, to its culture, to the wine-making.
This is the most ancient enological area, full of history and legend, where is born the wine called "Gods' nectar".
On these land geek colonization developed from the VIII century b. c. here, as in the whole Magna Gracie, there was the blossoming of the wine civilization developed at the same rate with the economic growth.
Near Sibari, a coasting town sited a lithe in the north of Cirò, a real ENODOTTO was built; it was a clay duct that brought wine in the harbour area where it was picked in big amphorae and embarked.
Between history and philosophy, this area san the propulsive action of Pitagora and of his school, which suppested a spiritual renewal of humanity. From Crotone, after internal disagreement, the philosopher and mathematician wandered and it's possible he also lived in the near Cirò.
In fact, one of his disciples, Milone from Crotone, famous for his muscular strength, drank wine a lot. The systems of farming and wine - making used by greek farmers were repeated for centuries in the area of Cirò and continued this secular tradition in a delimitated area.
Someone considers the "Cirò" as a wine that exhales Hellenism, son of sun and clay; but, apart from the sensation of who knows the wine, the "Cirò" is a dowel of knowing that must be added to the local archaeological founds, to the Pythagorean heritage and to the agricultural culture.
